To recall, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) banned all educational field trips in all public and private higher education institutions nationwide following the incident where at least 15 students were killed and 40 others injured after a bus traveling along Sitio Bayucan, Barangay Sampaloc, in the province of Tanay, crashed into an electric post on February 20, 2017. Accordingly, the bus was taking around 50 students from Bestlink College of the Philippines to a camping trip in Tanay.
Five months thereafter, CHED has lifted the ban on field trips. However, it issued CMO 63, s. 2017 adopting more stringent rules and guidelines to be observed to ensure the safety of college students participating in off-campus activities.
